If your family has spent much time around the church you have probably heard the statistics. Report after report seem to suggest large numbers of our youth are walking away from their faith after high school. Many have suggested reasons why, what, or who is at fault. Despite all the speculating no one has really come up with a solution.
For many churches it has become the elephant in the room. We don’t know what to do with it so we ignore it, keeping on with what we have always done, and hope the problem will go away.
We may not know what is causing our children to leave the faith, but we do know where faith is formed. And believe it or not it isn’t within church. Studies show 81% of young people cite their mother as the primary spiritual and religious influence in their lives, 61% cited their father as a primary spiritual influence, and 57% said their preacher or pastor. This is all good news. The not so good news is only 26% claimed sunday school and 24% claimed youth group was the primary spiritual and religious influence in their lives. Even Grandma and Grandpa did better than our children and student ministries.
So what does that mean for our young people?
We have to find better ways for our children and teenagers to connect with their families spiritually. If the primary place of spiritual formation takes place in the home, then we need to be intentional about bringing our faith home. That is where STAND@Home comes in.
STAND@Home is a ministry of Glenwood Church of Christ in Tyler, Texas. It exists to help families become more intentional about spiritual formation at home. It is our prayer STAND@Home will build life-long thriving marriages, help families introduce their children to Christ, and launch their teens as committed believers.
Why is it called STAND@Home?
STAND@Home is a ministry of Glenwood Church of Christ in Tyler, Texas. The Glenwood family is dedicated to graciously helping a fallen world stand up again. I’m sure you’ve noticed how fallen this world is. Our world is full of broken promises, lost identity, and fractured relationships—a far cry from what God intended! God created us to stand up, walk confidently with Him, and experience a life uplifted.
The Glenwood family is dedicated to graciously helping a fallen world stand up again.
We believe helping the world STAND again is our God-given mission—a mission that spills into everything we do, including ministering to our families. If the home is the primary place where faith is formed, then Glenwood wants to equip our families to graciously help their families STAND at home.
